What is Sports Massage?

Sports massage involves the manipulation of soft tissues, these include skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. The massage aims to correct problems and imbalances in soft tissues caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity or trauma. In addition, sports massage before and after exercise can enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

Who is Sports Massage for?

Is Sports massage just for athletes? not at all. Anyone can suffer from muscular pain or tension at some point. In fact, a significant proportion of people requiring Sports Massage are those who have muscular pain as a result of office work i.e. poor desk posture, drivers, manual workers, occupations with repetitive activity, falls and general postural issues.

Will the massage hurt?

Massage therapy is about getting results. Improvements won’t be made if the applied pressure is too heavy as the muscle being worked-on will tense under pain. Therefore, the therapist will work within the clients pain threshold limits.

What is involved in a Sports Massage appointment?

Full medical history is taken (i.e. medical conditions or medications that are being taken).
Massage sessions last from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the treatment required.
It is recommended that the first appointment should be a 1-hour slot to allow for a full history and static/dynamic assessment.
